There are many apps that you can download for the navigation but the most usable and good app is Google Maps. It is said to be the best in its field and mostly every one of you uses it too but if you are an iPhone user then the choice becomes a bit difficult as you get Apple Maps already installed on your device.
Google Maps VS Apple Maps Which One Should You Use?
Both the apps perform well and doesn't disappoint you in any way. You can literally do any task related to maps, navigation on both of these apps. Every app has its pros and cons and in this article, we'll compare both of these apps and tell you which app you should consider using if you are an iPhone user. We'll tell you about everything both of these apps offer one by one and at the end of this article, I'll share my personal opinion on which app you should consider using but you can make your own preference too by analyzing the features provided by both of these apps.
As I have said earlier that almost every one of you uses Google Maps in your daily lives or at least you have downloaded it on your phone. But the question comes that what makes Google Maps the best maps app that everyone prefers it over the others? we'll surely target this question in here. The reason behind the consideration of Google Maps over the other could be that it is developed by one of the leading companies that all of you know and have faith upon that is Google itself. They have enhanced their quality of maps so much that you all enjoy using this app but the other reason for consideration could be the features this app offers.
Google Maps offers numerous extra features than just providing you with the direction/ navigating you to your desired location. The best of all is that Google Maps provides you with the option to "Explore Nearby". If you have shared your location with the app, Google Maps provide you with the nearby locations which are good to visit/explore along with the distance from your current location you can simply click on that and Google Maps will provide you with the traffic-free route or where the traffic is least. It also provides you with a small description of that particular place/location.
Another good feature that this app offer is "Featured lists". Here you get the list of the best places to visit/things to do/Food and drink near your current location or in your city. This feature comes in very handy if you are visiting any new place and want to know what is there to travel? , Which is the best place to eat out? and many more things like that, to get the answer of all these questions you can just simply search the place and go to the featured lists there you'll get all the information you want to know.
If your location is saved on the app then Google Maps also provide you with the photos of the businesses near you. You can check them out in case you want to explore what kind of businesses run around your house/office. This feature also has subtopics to choose from it could be Outdoor, Eat, Travel, and so on. Along with providing you with photos Google Maps also tells you the location of that particular photo on the map.
As this COVID-19 is going on and we all are advised to take certain precautions Google Maps has come up with the feature called "Coronavirus(COVID-19) local information and updates". In here you get all the information regarding the reopening of shops, Safe travel, Public Transport, Travel advice issued by the government of your country. There are direct links provided by the app to the government sites of your respective country. Moreover, you can send your own feedback over this feature.
You get the option to add your daily commute/the places that you visit daily. After you did this the app provides you with the best route you can get to reach your destination considering the types of roads in your route, traffic, and many more things. All of this is done considering the time you have set of your daily commute. The app provides you with the notification about the best possible route you can go daily. If you are eager to know how the app has decided that a particular route to be the best for you then you can check out all the details by clicking on the Steps option. Here you get all the information on how the app has said that route best to reach your destination.
Then the app provides you with the option to save your locations that you navigate daily reducing your hassle to set the direction each time you want to go there. This option is available on the "Saved". Here you get the freedom to add your Favourites, Want to go, and Starred places along with the places that you have labeled like Home and Work, Reservations, and following.
As I have said earlier that we live in such a world where routes keep on changing day by day and due to this sometimes Google Maps provides you with the wrong direction, to resolve this issue the app has provided you with the feature known as "Contribute". Here you get the freedom to edit the map/missing place if you think that the direction provided by the app is wrong so that they can improve their services. Along with this you can add a review about any place or add a photo also, though, this is not necessary and I personally do not recommend you add photos on Google Maps.
Features like searching the nearest gas station, hotel, and many more are common and we'll know about them so I think that these are not necessary features to review you can explore them on your own and can test these features according to your location.
Apple Maps originally known as Maps is also a very good app to rely upon. It is specially built by Apple of Apple users only. You can use this app on any of the Apple devices you own it could your iPhone, Apple watch or something else you can use it anywhere anytime you want. Apple Maps is quite simple and limited. You get straight forward features only, there are no such extra features like Google Maps but you get a quite advantage of using a stock app rather than downloading an external one from the App store.
Apple Maps can be used without actually opening it with the help of Siri. You just have to command Siri that where you want to go and it will access the Apple Maps to do its task. You get the option to add your favorite locations, labeled places simply on the main screen itself then you also get the proper temperature and Air Quality Index(AQI) of that particular location you are searching for or want to go this feature is not available in the Google Maps.
An interesting feature of this app that differentiates it from Google Maps in a major way is that you can make your "Collection" or in easy words, you can make your own group of places you want to visit along with adding a name to that collection and a photo. This feature will help you a lot if you are a person who travels a lot and wants to make a specific folder for places to visit in that particular location or you can also make a group/collection of places you want to visit in near future it is a really helpful feature.
Searching a location/place is the same as you get in Google Maps you have the option to search the nearby places like Restaurants, Food delivery, Petrol pump, and many more and you also get the history of places you have recently visited same as you get in Google Maps.
The app also provides you the freedom to change the map settings to Transport and Satellite then you get the option to either show or not to show traffic while navigating to your destination.
The app's most interesting feature is that you can mark/pin a location and can either add it to one of your collection or share it to others moreover you can assign that location to a new contact or to an existing one and one more thing although it is not useful to a normal person but the app tells you about the latitude and longitude of that particular location.
You can add a missing place here also the same as that you add in the Contribute option available in the Google Maps. You get the option to make your Contact card and the app will access all your details like house and office location from there itself it helps you save a lot of time and hassle to it again and again.
Overall
As I said Google Maps and Apple Maps both are best in their respective work but as an iPhone user I'll prefer using Apple Maps although Google Maps is also very great but the reasons due to which I prefer Apple Maps over the Google Maps are that
- It is a stock app made especially for Apple users.
- You can excess it via Siri.
- It is simple and straight forward to use. There are no such extra features available in this app you get only what is necessary or mostly needed/used in any maps apps.
- The layout/design of maps is more appealing to eyes then the maps provided by Google.
This is my personal opinion but you can prefer one of them yourself as I have discussed every possible feature that these apps offer.
